In a shocking incident, an elderly woman died for lack of oxygen in the premises of a private hospital even as her kin rushed from ATM to ATM to withdraw requisite cash so that they could pay for her admission to the healthcare facility in Rajam of Srikakulam district on Wednesday. The Covid positive patient, identified as Anjali, was brought to the private hospital by her relatives as she was in dire need of oxygen to breathe.
Refusing to take online payment, the hospital staff insisted on cash payment for admission. So the relatives of the victim woman rushed from one ATM to another and at last returned with the cash only to see Anjali lifeless, having breathed her last due to lack of oxygen.
The sight of the woman’s grief-stricken relatives weeping in the hospital premises and their expression of disgust at the callous attitude of the hospital staff soon went viral on social media platforms. Soon, word spread and people started gathering at the, expressing their disgust and anger at the staff and management. They also blamed the government-run ‘108’ ambulance service for not responding in time.
