The 3rd edition of Pinkathon Day powered by WOW Life Science was celebrated on November 1, 2020 globally, to promote fitness and health for all women. Unfazed by the limitations and challenges of the pandemic this year, Pinkathon Ambassadors were all set for Pinkathon Day 2020 with the slogan – “UNSTOPPABLE. No matter what!”
Across 77 cities in India and other countries, more than 20,000 women and their families participated in a 3 km run at 6.30 am on the same day at the same time to showcase their solidarity to promote the cause of positivity in progress and good health for all, beginning with women themselves. At the basis of Pinkathon lies the understanding that in a country like ours, with a culture that has no tradition of sports for all, or exercise or of healthy lifestyle practices, change is needed and women are the key to that change.
The concept of Pinkathon Day powered by WOW Life Science is the brainchild of supermodel and founder of Pinkathon, Milind Soman who said, “The response to the 3rd edition of Pinkathon Day has been huge. The innovative format worked well even during these difficult times. The Ambassadors have done a fabulous job of encouraging women in so many places to take their first steps to fitness. This celebration of women’s health is the biggest event India has seen since February 2020!”
Reema Sanghavi, Co-Founder Pinkathon & Managing Director, Maximus MICE & Media Solutions Pvt. Ltd said, “On 1st of November 2020, 20,000 Runners celebrated the Pinkathon Day 3.0 making it the largest running event in the face of the Pandemic. It’s just wonderful to see how the message of Pink is being spread across the world by our enthusiastic Pinkathon Ambassadors. The Pinkathon Community establishes that they are unstoppable no matter what. We at Maximus are thrilled that we have been able to pull off such an event and that the message of PINK continues to spread far and wide.”
In Vizag it was organized in a few locations including YMCA, MVP, Seethammadhara, Simhachalam and Tenneti park. The ambassadors took the lead in coordinating, gathering and engaging participants with warm up routine, the run flag off followed by a group performance for the ‘Pinkathon Day’ tune, said M Jyothirmayi, pinkathon ambassador from Vizag.
Pinkathon: Now a Grassroots Movement Pinkathon, which started out as a running event has now transformed into a grassroot movement, with people across the country taking up the cause and spreading the message of health and fitness for all. Pinkathon Ambassadors have been relentlessly spreading this message to each and every household, building the community from ground up. Across at least eight cities, each Ambassador is tasked with starting a running group especially for women in their neighbourhood of residence and dedicating at least one hour per week for a meet-up-and-run session.
Using COMMUNITY RUNNING as a tool, Pinkathon and its Ambassadors have empowered and enabled thousands of women across India to bring positive change into their lives. By
understanding that prioritising a little bit of “me-time” every day can improve their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, these women have been able to realise the value they bring to their families and started respecting that value. Pinkathon has been successful in communicating the importance of good health and wellbeing in every aspect of their lives and made it a driving force of every decision.
Pinkathon is India’s biggest women’s run to encourage and promote fitness and health among women and create awareness about breast cancer and other issues relating to women’s health. An initiative by the United Sisters Foundation and promoted by Maximus MICE & Media Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Pinkathon will successfully complete eight years in December 2020. The focus of India’s biggest women’s-only running event, is to encourage an active lifestyle and encourage thousands of new or first-timer women to take up running.
Pinkathon day Vizag run was conducted from Kali Temple and a total of 546 participants registered for it. Physical run was optional and participants were given the options of doing a home based workout or run in their own neighbourhood.
