The three-day training session for zookeepers from across the nation on captive management of reptiles concluded at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park here on Wednesday. Participants from almost 40 zoo parks across the country enthusiastically participated in the event.
The basic biology of reptiles like turtles, snakes, crocodiles was explained with practical sessions during this three-day training programme conducted by Dr Gowri Mallapur from Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi. The programme focused on the many species of turtles, crocodiles and snakes. Queries like how to identify the gender of a reptile, and how to carefully collect their eggs were explained in a way that everyone could understand.
Dr Mallapur cleared doubts raised by the participants after the sessions. Offline zookeepers along with online participants also listened to the sessions with keen interest. By this training session, they have learned many new practices which they previously did not know, said participants from both online and offline platforms.
